    About us

The MEY Hotel, a former coaching inn offers double & king size en-suite rooms, twin, triple, family & mobility accessible rooms. A stylish lounge bar & restaurant offering traditional home cooked evening meals with the occasional specials. The hotel is conveniently located directly on the NC500, in the village of Mey, less than 4 miles away from the Pentland Ferry and 25 mins from Northlink Ferries at Scrabster, both offering daily crossings to and from the Orkney islands. Approximately 7 miles from John O Groats and just a few hundred metres from the Queen Mothers Highland home, The Castle of Mey. Currently there are 5 well-appointed, recently refurbished rooms situated around the courtyard area, these rooms were originally the old stable block. Each room has a modern en-suite shower room and are all located at ground level. One of the rooms has been purpose built as a mobility accessible room and this can be prepared as a twin or a super-king room. The lounge bar is cosy & friendly giving you the perfect place to relax and sample a few of the local drinks on offer. If you are keen to try some malt whisky then our taster flights are a great way to sample different flavours before you choose your perfect serve. Our restaurant offers meals for our residents and non residents to enjoy. Booking is essential. 'Heggies' is our stylish newly opened coffee shop offering a selection of great coffee, tea and light lunches. (open on Saturdays, Mondays & Tuesdays) Our exciting new addition for 2024 is our 'pop up' tasting menu evenings from Cusiner Chris Duckham at Cote Du Nord. Available on selected Saturdays throughout the season, it provides a unique and truly wonderful dining experience using local produce in a very different way. Paired with a delectable wine flight that is an amazing experience to enjoy and remember. The hotel is open from March to October with check-ins from 4pm and check out by 10am on the morning of departure. Please note- We are a small, husband and wife run, country hotel with a warm and friendly relaxed atmosphere and food freshly cooked to order. We however, are not a city centre, 5 star, 24hr manned reception with multiple staff members and high speed broadband in every corner of the hotel and grounds.
It is a 200 yr old building that has lots of charm and character. Rooms are well decorated and spotlessly clean but we are in a rural country location with very little around. The weather is sometimes cold and is unfortunately outside of our control despite our best efforts but that is what makes Scotland so lush green and beautiful.
If the country noises, the occasional cold night and intermittent broadband etc are things that you think may be an issue, then we suggest you embrace the hospitality Scotland has to offer and have a dram in the lounge in front of the fire and the cold will soon disappear.

    Tasty food menu

Euan and Emma could not have given us a warmer welcome. Euans Haggis, Neeps and potato starter was outstanding. The venison casserole cooked to perfection and the lightest of ginger sponges for pudding. Portion sizes were perfect and our conversation with Euan and Emma was a bonus . They were so friendly and relaxed. We would highly recommend this hotel and wish them all the best.

New to the area we decided to try the Mey Hotel for food last night. A very warm welcome from the owners Ewan and Emma, lovely decor, nice & warm on a cold wet night and the food was great. Smoked seafood starter to share, haggis, neeps and tatties and fish & chips. Highly recommended and we will be back.

Everything was perfect! They were made for this job, we have never felt so welcome and at home whilst away. The room was spotless and decorated just beautifully, the food for both Tea and Breakfast was amazing! Could not fault anything.
